Maryll
Giulia Monego's love of the mountains determines her choices. A gifted skier, Giulia made it her profession, first in alpine skiing and then in freeride. The steep slopes of the Mont Blanc massif led her to settle in the Chamonix Valley. Giulia is one of the best skiers in the world
To go down these slopes, you have to reach the summit. Giulia enjoys mountaineering. That's a good thing. The helicopter approach isn't her thing
Taking the time, enjoying the journey to admire nature, sharing a unique moment with her climbing companions. This is what drives Giulia every day
IFMGA mountain guide Giulia swaps her skis for cams in the summer. You can't imagine my joy when she agreed to try Ourea and take the time to give us her feedback. I'll let you discover our discussion below. Thank you, Giulia!
Where does this love of the mountains come from? How do you experience them on a daily basis?
My love for the mountains began in my childhood, when, fortunately, my parents took me for hikes in the Dolomites, between refuges, trails and via ferrata. In winter, it was skiing which stole my heart. The feeling of freedom while skiing down the slopes at full speed, and then being able to do it again, was incomparable
Today, I am lucky enough to make my passion my profession as a high mountain guide based in the Mont-Blanc region, and to share my expertise with new passionate people in search of adventure
The mountains are very fragile due to climate change. What are the biggest changes you've witnessed?
The mountains, as I experience them, are the first major casualty of climate change. Snow is clearly less abundant at lower altitudes, and I've seen more than one ski resort I frequented as a child close its doors. Glaciers are shrinking visibly, and exceptional rockfalls are becoming more and more frequent, making certain routes impassable during periods of extreme heat. We can still enjoy the mountains, but it's now much more dependent on good timing
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start rock climbing?
For someone who wants to experience the mountains, I would recommend rock climbing, which remains an activity rich in adrenaline, emotions, and complete both physically and mentally. Moreover, if practiced with the necessary precautions and outside of high mountains, it remains one of the safest activities
What is your review on Ourea Huile de Prune?
I find that the oil smells very good, almost like an Italian amaretto, which I love! Plus, it regenerates the skin very quickly after a big climbing session. It's not greasy and it nourishes the skin to make it stronger for the next climb!
Merci Amalthea and Au Vieux Campeur
