Day cream with SPF vs Sunscreen

A day cream with SPF vs. a sunscreen. At first glance, they seem to be the same

It is actually very different. Adding the word « sunscreen » to the product name changes everything. A day cream with SPF is not considered as a sunscreen by regulations

Brands selling day cream with SPF are not required to carry out sunscreen tests to guarantee the level of sun protection. The brand can simply choose a lab simulation that gives an initial idea of protection. They are free to carry out the tests they want

These day creams with SPF give the impression that a light application in the morning is enough to protect the skin from UV throughout the day. This wrong impression is even more significant when the day cream claims SPF50. Sunscreen needs to be reapplied every 2 hours and in large quantity

Therefore | ANSES, French regulations | recommends that skincare products such as day creams or makeup should not be allowed to claim an SPF. By applying these types of products every day, you are not protected and you expose your body to these filters which represent a risk to your health. In short, it is useless and dangerous

Using the word « sunscreen », Amalthea body & face sunscreen falls under the | sunscreen products regulation |. We recommend applying it when needed, not every morning and in large quantity. We will be testing the SPF level (i.e. UVB protection) in vivo and UVA protection in vitro. These tests represent a very significant financial cost for us. We are talking about several thousand euros. Your pre-orders help us launch the sunscreen lotion
